Room 801 Walkthrough

Room 801 Walkthrough

Room 801 has a simple idea, but the small changes in the hallway can cause problems. You play as Hiyori Yasaka, a worker who returns to her company housing after a strange encounter. A mysterious woman gives her a clear rule about the hallway.

If you see something unusual, return to Room 1. If nothing looks wrong, go to the elevator. The full game follows this basic rule, so careful observation is more important than fast movement.

Start With the Hallway
When the hallway appears, do not rush toward the elevator. First check the area. Look at the doors, walls, posters, lights, floor, and objects. Try to remember the normal layout.
Room 801 uses small visual changes as part of its main puzzle. Some changes are very clear, while others are hard to notice on the first try.

Check for Anomalies
Look for anything that does not match the previous hallway. A new object, changed poster, strange shadow, handprint, different room number, or unusual light can be a sign.
Some anomalies also use sound. Footsteps and other strange sounds can help you notice that something is wrong.

If You Find an Anomaly
If you notice a strange change, turn back and enter Room 1. This is the correct response to an anomaly.
A gameplay guide also explains that the game records a discovered anomaly when you enter Room 1. After the required progress, the game can also let you view discovered anomalies again.

If Everything Looks Normal
If you check the hallway and find no strange change, go toward the elevator. Do not return to Room 1 without a reason, because the main rule depends on your observation.
Before you move, take one final look at the hallway. Check the elevator area too, since the elevator itself can have an anomaly.

Keep Checking Each Area
The game can show different changes as you progress. Examples include a running ghost, black box, sealed door, handprints, changed umbrella, different newspaper, flickering light, strange room numbers, and other changes.
You do not need to fight enemies or collect a large list of items. Your main task is to notice what does not belong in the hallway.

Reach the End
Continue the same process through the required sections. Find an anomaly and return to Room 1. See nothing unusual and go to the elevator.
A Japanese walkthrough states that after the player reaches the first floor, the path to the right side leads to the ending.

Final Walkthrough Tip
Room 801 rewards patience. Do not move through the hallway without a check. Look at the same places each time and remember small details. Once you learn the normal layout, strange changes become much easier to spot.
